Probably the most user friendly of all the AT binding set ups, the Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Pro alpine touring binding makes it easy to glide to the top of any backcountry summit like the pros. With heel lift positions of 1.5 cm, 4.5 cm and 7 cm, there are plenty of height adjustments for comfortably climbing terrain of almost any incline, and switching between them can be done without bending over. BD's Fritschi Freeride Pro bindings are set up with large brakes for fat skis with a waist of up to 108 mm. Fritschi fans like these do it all bindings for their efficiency and power. If your ski gear budget only affords you one pair of bindings for alpine touring and resort skiing, these are the logical choice because you can rock these babies inbounds and in the backcountry. The Fritschi Freeride Pro's are compatible with either backcountry ski boots with lug soles or with your regular alpine ski boots. They also have a wide toe piece hinge that provides a larger footprint for better edge to edge power transfer.

These bindings are available in short (260-315 mm boot sole), medium (285-340 mm boot sole), and long (330-365 mm boot sole).
  • Gliding Technology with a wide toe piece hinge
  • Power Transmission Control (PTC) technology
  • Max DIN 12, and DIN certified for both alpine touring and alpine boot soles
  • Free gliding heel bar with integrated lock prevents accidental release into touring mode
  • Included brake fits up to 108 mm ski width
Expert Review:

"Fritschi says there are three heel lift positions (plus flat,) but I create a fourth (for a total of five positions) by opening the lock to free the binding and then closing the lock before I put my heel back down. The result is about .75 cm of lift which is perfect for low incline skinning until it gets steeper and you need the heel lifts that were designed into the binding. Because of all the height adjustments, these are the most comfortable binding on the market for the trip uphill. Heading downhill, if you ski the Fritschi Pros on hardpack at the resort, you'll notice the height off the ski, but mine have always felt rock solid in the backcountry."

Mark Fischer, Jans Gear Analyst

"I like the Fritschi Diamir Freeride Pro bindings because I can keep a steady uphill pace on the skin track. They are not the lightest binding on the market, but they are smooth and I can use them with my regular alpine ski boots so I donGÇÖt have to have a different set of touring boots for my backcountry adventures."

Skiing MAGAZINE Assessment:

The Pro is built on a wide platform for stability and power transmission on bigger skis. It sits high, which creates some play between the binding and the ski in firmer conditions, but testers declared it the easiest to operate of all the bindings here. It's great for a first-time tourer but won't disappoint advanced skiers either.
