Jans' Assessment: AC stands for all conditions, and believe me, it's true! This everyday ski for the masses, has a broad performance spectrum with ease of initiation and a smooth ride at any speed. The AC 3 has tons of energy, precise edge control, and a shape that will appease the king of corduroy as well as the back bowl burner.

Head Monster IM 77

Jans' Assessment: Liquid-metal, intelligence technology, and shape combine to allow you to explode powder at 9:00, bust crud at 11:00 and carve up hardpack at 3:00, making the 77 one of the most versatile skis on the market today. This ski will bring out the monster in you.

Volkl SS 5 Star Motion

Jans' Assessment: Back for a third year is the Supersport 5 Star with Marker's Motion binding system. A real success story in ski design, it continues to please skiers from all abilities and terrain preferences. Primarily known for its carving agility on the groomers, this ski will surprise you in the bumps as well as at cruising speeds on the buff.

Rossignol B2
Sizes Available: 158, 166, 174, 182
Sidecut: 116/78/105
Jans' Assessment: You may have heard of this one we sure have! The legend of 2005, the Rossignol B2, is back with a wider footprint, new school graphics and an aluminum insert in the nose which adds torsional stability at higher speeds. Talk about an "all-mountain" ski, man o' man is this a good one. Piste or off piste, you will be a happy camper.
Ski Magazine Assessment: What started as the Bandit XX has put on width over the years, but never at the expense of the surprising quickness and edge-grip that make it extraordinarily fun and versatile. It's a classic Rossi: so damp and smooth you begin suspecting it's a pussycat until steeper terrain and higher speeds bring out the tiger.

Atomic Metron:10
Sizes Available: 157, 164, 171, 178
Radius: 12.5m
Jans' Assessment: Are you a corduroy ripper who dreams of off-piste fantasies? Well then, here is your ski for 2006. It makes high speed GS turns seem like a piece of cake, and floats through the powder. This ski is pure pleasure all over the mountain.

K2 Apache Crossfire
Sizes Available: 160, 167, 174, 181
Sidecut: 115/68/99
Jans' Assessment: The Crossfire returns for another year after its great success in 2005. An elevated performance level with an "easy" feel makes this ski a great choice for those still climbing the freeride ladder. K2's patented Mod Monic design and Titan metal laminate construction give the sensation of skiing on air.

Head XRC 1100
Sizes Available: 156, 163, 170, 177
Sidecut: 116/68/100
Jans' Assessment: Yeah, liquid-metal and intelligence technology again. A consistent theme in Head's design philosophy is going over in a big way, producing stability, versatility, and agility in a package you can't find just anywhere. There are not enough "o's" in the word smooth to describe this ride.
Ski Magazine Assessment: Huge tip, narrow waist, predictable results: The 1100 is a ski that loves to arc, pulling the most recalcitrant skidders into automatic carves. It tends to be a little on the heavy side for most women.

K2 Apache Recon
Sizes Available: 167, 174, 181
Sidecut: 119-78-105
Jans' Assessment: Back for another year, the big mountain tamer from K2 is riding on a huge wave of demand from last year when we couldn't keep the darn thing on the shelf long enough to get the wrappers off. A manly ski developed for 50% on piste and 50% off. Look! Up on the hill It's a powder ski No, it's a freeride ski No, it's Super Recon!
Ski Magazine Assessment: The Recon's top layer of Titanal is solid underfoot but perforated toward the tip and tail to reduce swing-weight without sacrificing the power and supple dampness metal lends. Given its width, it'll always prefer soft snow, but it's reasonably at home on hardtack.
