Wintersteiger Technology

At Rennstall we are proud to exclusively operate Wintersteiger ski service machines. From base repair to edge sharpening, these are the machines that allow our Expert technicians to deliver fully-customized tunes with both quality and speed. Learn more about the function of our five primary machines and see them in action below.

Basejet (“P-tex Machine”)

Automated base repair system

The Basejet provides a full, even distribution of P-tex (polyethylene thermally bonded to the base material) that fills in every imperfection of the base of a ski, while making scraping easier than traditional, hand-applied methods. That means our Expert ski technicians have a better starting surface to work with – improving the finished product of the entire tune.

Sigma B (“Belt”)

General-purpose belt grinding machine

The Belt lets us “start over” with your skis. This manually-operated pre-grinding machine removes inconsistencies and existing structure from ski bases and side edges. This is key for two reasons:

  1. It ensures consistent, effective passes over grinding and edging stones. By buffing out your old structure, removing subtle P-tex build ups, and knocking hangers off your edges, the Sigma B provides the clean slate we need to give your skis a fresh start.
  2. It prevents damage to machines and tools used later in the tuning process, preserving their lifespan and greatly reducing the risk of damage to skis.

Discovery 2 SSDP (“Carwash”)

Automated base repair system

This is the fully-automated, “do-it-all” machine that makes it possible for us to tune hundreds of pairs of skis in a single night. With the ability to create and store individual sequences (the order that the ski passes over each belt, stone and disc), the Carwash also allows our ski techs a great deal of personalization from an automated tune. Equipped with self-feeding/unloading “ski magazines,” a pre-grind stone, a finish stone, dual side/base edge ceramic discs, and dual tip/tail polishing stones, this machine is able to complete a full tune in a matter of minutes.

Trimjet (“Edger”)

Automated edge grinding machine

This machine uses Wintersteiger’s renowned Ceramic Disc Finish to apply consistently precise edge geometry and angles. That means smooth, sharp edges from tip to tail. Since the Edger grinds in both directions, it allows us to set custom side and base edge angles all in one process – greatly reducing the amount of time required to deliver elite edge sharpness. From recreational skiers that need 2°/1° bevels, to high-level racers running 3°/0.5° bevels, the Edger does it all.

Sigma RS 350 (“Stone”)

Race stone grinding machine

This machine is used to flatten ski bases and set a new structure. Equipped with the Racing Module, the Stone allows us to set the parameter-controlled base structures that competitive ski racers need. Capable of storing up to 32 individual grind patterns, the Stone can deliver structures customized for snow/air temperature, air humidity, type of snow, and ski discipline. That allows our Expert ski technicians to dream up custom structures, dial in the grind settings, and then test them out on the hill. When we get one perfect, it’s added to the Rennstall repertoire. Linear, arrow, linear arrow, wave, angular crossed, triple, quattro – the possibilities of unique structures are endless.
